Its synthesis occurs mainly in the liver, but in order for the body to produce enough glutathione, it needs enough suitable building blocks, which are obtained from the diet. These substances include amino acids, especially cysteine, which is a limiting factor for the production of glutathione. Sulfur-rich foods, such as broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, garlic and onions, are particularly useful for supporting the natural production of glutathione. Eating these foods can help increase its levels in the body.

However, various factors can affect the level of glutathione in the body. These include the natural aging process, which can cause a decrease in its production, but also factors such as environmental pollution, stress, lack of sleep, unhealthy diet or excessive physical exertion. These factors can lead to increased oxidative stress and at the same time to higher consumption of glutathione, which can affect cell function in the long term.
